CEREC Crowns
CEREC is short for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics or CEramic REConstruction. It is an advanced and convenient in-office technology, first introduced in 1987, that restores structurally damaged teeth. CEREC can be used to design crowns, veneers, bridges, and other dental structures.
A primary benefit of CEREC is that it dramatically speeds up the process of getting your teeth restored. What used to be a week-long procedure can now be achieved in two to three hours. At the same time, CEREC has ushered in the use of better-quality and much longer-lasting materials for tooth restoration.
At Comfort Care Dental Clinic, located in downtown Montreal, we are proud to offer CEREC restorations to our patients looking for fast, effective, and durable solutions.

How CEREC works
The CEREC system is made up of two parts: a computer station and a milling station. Once the damaged part of the tooth has been removed, the computer station takes a digital impression of the tooth and prepares a digital model that is used to design the restoration. When the design is completed, the model is transferred to the milling station. A block of material with tooth colour is then milled by diamond cutters, and the final restoration is ready in minutes.
At Comfort Care Dental Clinic in downtown Montreal, this entire process is performed on-site, reducing the need for multiple appointments and allowing us to restore your smile quickly and efficiently.
What are CEREC crowns made of?
CEREC crowns are made of resins, porcelain or zirconia. We select the material that provides the needed resistance to pressure or the desired improvement in appearance.
Zirconia has the greatest resistance capabilities to pressure, while porcelain more closely imitates the natural appearance of teeth. Resins are used, whenever needed, to produce temporary crowns.
Our experienced team at Comfort Care Dental Clinic in downtown Montreal will help you choose the best material based on your individual needs and oral health goals.
CEREC crowns versus traditional crowns
Two appointments are required for getting traditional crowns. In the first appointment, your dentist removes the damaged part of the tooth, takes impressions with various dental materials, and cements a temporary crown. The taste, smell, and texture of the materials used to take impressions may cause discomfort in some patients. These impressions are sent to a dental lab where your future crown is made. A week later, you return for your second appointment, where the final crown is cemented onto your tooth.
To get a CEREC crown, you need only one appointment. At Comfort Care Dental Clinic in downtown Montreal, we remove the damaged part of the tooth and take a digital impression using state-of-the-art scanning equipment. This impression causes no discomfort and is used to design your crown and manufacture it right here in our office. We then cement the crown on the same day.
The benefits of this procedure include being anesthetized only once, no use of messy impression materials, and no need for a return visit. Patients in downtown Montreal looking for a more comfortable, time-saving alternative to traditional crowns turn to Comfort Care Dental Clinic for CEREC solutions.
CEREC veneers
CEREC can also be used to produce veneers – thin pieces of porcelain that are bonded to the front surface of teeth to dramatically improve appearance. As with crowns, you need only one appointment to get CEREC veneers at Comfort Care Dental Clinic in downtown Montreal. During your visit, your teeth are scanned with our advanced system to produce a computer model that is used to design and create your veneers on the spot.
CEREC bridges
CEREC is also used to produce dental bridges for missing teeth. It is especially effective when replacing a tooth in the front segment of the upper or lower jaw. In these cases, Comfort Care Dental Clinic in downtown Montreal uses CEREC to design bridges that preserve natural tooth structure, often requiring little to no grinding of adjacent teeth. These bridges resemble a butterfly and are cemented to neighboring teeth using their “wings.”
How long does a CEREC crown last?
On average, a CEREC crown lasts about 13 years with proper care. Under favourable conditions, it can last even longer. However, bruxism (teeth grinding or clenching) may significantly reduce its lifespan.
At Comfort Care Dental Clinic, we guide our downtown Montreal patients on how to care for their restorations to maximize longevity and avoid complications.
